Sweet Nothings

By Maya Plytas

Our lives are a world of sweet nothings,

Whispered in our ears,

Seen in our hallways,

Floating on our roads.

How do we know what is the truth?

And what is fake?

What people really mean?

And what they think of us?

When no one actually says they care,

About who you are or how you’re doing.

A book I once read said,

“I encapsulate a world of nothing”.

But I disagree.

Instead of being the shells,

I think the world makes us so.

Because in the end,

Those sweet nothings mean both everything,

And nothing at all.
